IIM kolkata gets first female director, Anju Seth to head the institute

She is a professor of management studies of Virginia University. She was appointed late last year as the director of one of the most prestigious business schools of India, IIM Kolkata. Last month she joined work and took over as the first woman director of any IIM. Though IIM has a rule where NRI professors can head the institute or be part of any of its administrative post, the Union Home Ministry has raised concerns about this appointment.

However, such NRI professors and academicians are not new to prestigious India institutes like IIM and IIT. Even IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad had such directors before. Anju Seth herself is an ex-student of IIM Joka. She passed out in 1978 and in 1988 did her PhD from Michigan University. From 2008-2013 she has been the head of management studies of Virginia Tech University.
