State government to give low-cost flats to the poor in Bengal

The state government is giving away low-cost flats to the low-income group so that everyone has a decent home that they can call their own. Since 2011 under government schemes around 1 lakh 75,000 flats were made out of which 60-70% were given to the poor. In a recent CREDAI programme called Statecon 2019, Amit Mitra, State Finance, Industry & Commerce Minister said this state government programme of providing a decent shelter to the low-income group in the state is a vision of the Chief Minister and the projects will see a further boost in the coming years.

In the real estate sector Bengal has seen an investment of a whooping 40,000 crore in last 5 years and around 40 lakh people have been employed. What is encouraging is this business is increasing at a rate of 15 per cent per annum.
