Deb Shankar Roy and Jyoti Shankar Roy have been trained in Indian Classical music by their father Sri Nikhilesh Roy and Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. But they loved experimenting with music. Thus, they ventured into various genres, like pop, jazz, fusion taking their Indian classical tunes to a stage of world music. The brothers have been performing across the globe from 1988 and have played in remarkable venues like Forum in Barcelona, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and music festivals of Belgium, Morocco, France and Paleo Festival of Switzerland.
Their first album, Violin Brothers in 2001 created quite a sensation in the world of music. Bandish Symphony was another remarkable album where the music was composed by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and the arrangement was done by the brothers themselves. Now they are joined by Rohan Roy, son of Deb Shankar Roy. Rohan is one of the most talented young violinists of India who also plays along with the Violin Brothers. He was trained by his father and started playing violin from the age of five and has won challenge cup and gold medal at the Royal School of Music. He has worked for various international projects and Bengali films. Lending ears to his performance, perhaps can make you forget all the tribulations and agonies of life. The Violin Brothers believe in spreading the magic of violin and connecting people through music and has set up their music academy in Salt Lake where students aged between 7-70 years come from different spheres of the society to add a sublime treat to the soul.
