This highlights rapidly expanding metropolises by 2033. Kolkata succeeded Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad as a nucleus for future growth and development.
The Growth Hubs Index underscores Kolkata's dynamic potential as an economic and cultural powerhouse. It evaluated how tradition and modernity coexist to create a thriving urban environment. The study considered only those urban centres with a GDP surpassing $50 billion (nearly Rs 4 lakh crore) as of 2023, Kolkata’s projected GDP growth of over 68% during the forecasted period.
The Growth Hubs Index also examined metrics such as personal wealth growth, population and migration trends, and future dependency ratios to identify the cities with the most promising trajectories. Kolkata’s rich heritage and progressive modernity contribute to its appeal as a global city. The city is poised for further growth through investments in infrastructure, education, and technology with a GDP already surpassing $50 billion.
The Growth Hubs Index, developed from city-metro level information by Oxford Economics and future credit ratings, highlights Kolkata’s potential as a key driver of India's economic expansion.
