Sundarini Naturals from Bengal wins International award in Paris – GetBengal story
The women-led Sundarini cooperative in the Sundarbans is transforming lives with the aim of empowering local women. The West Bengal state government launched Sundarini Naturals in 2015—a brand which includes over 4,500 women farmers in South 24 Parganas.
Under the Sundarini Naturals brand, these women collectively produce over 2,000 litres of preservative-free milk each day, delivering a wide range of organic dairy products including ghee, paneer, curd (doi/dahi), and traditional Bengali sweets. The cooperative adheres to rigorous organic farming practices as outlined by India’s National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), ensuring that every product is free from chemicals and adulteration. But Sundarini Naturals represents much more than organic certification; it reflects a commitment to holistic well-being and sustainability for the farmers, the animals, and the land.
This dedication to sustainable growth recently earned Sundarini international acclaim at the Third IDF Dairy Innovation Awards in Paris, where it stood out among 153 global entries for its visionary approach to dairy farming and rural empowerment. Through Sundarini Naturals, the cooperative is not only reshaping India’s dairy industry but also building a thriving future for the women in Bengal.
