State government’s MSME clusters generate employment even during economic downturn
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced at the Bengal Business Conclave in Digha a host of measures for MSME clusters aimed at generating employment for artisans and weavers of Bengal. She said in a bid to boost the rural economy and counter the current economic slump in India, the state government will procure all relief materials like sarees, gamchhas, bedsheets, dhotis, from rural weavers to ensure they have a constant source of employment and financial assistance.
The state government aims at helping around 20,000 weavers in the next 3 years by creating 25 lakh man-days. The state government is also setting up an MSME facility centre in Siliguri It will also set up bell and brass metal clusters, kantha stitch and shellac clusters and stone carving centre including an artisan cluster in Bolpur.
