Ramchandra Guha is 3rd Indian historian to get highest honour at American Historical Association!
Historian Ramchandra Guha becomes the 3rd Indian to get the prestigious Foreign Member Award from USA! When? Where?
A recent tweet shared by well-known historian Ramachandra Guha reveals how he conquered the USA academic circles. Guha got the prestigious ‘Honorary Foreign Member Award’ from the American Historical Association. He thus becomes the third Indian historian after Jadunath Sarkar and Romila Thapar to have received this award that is given to historians for their exemplary work since 1886.
The award recognises historians working outside the United States for their distinguished scholarship and assistance to American scholars in their country. Guha will receive the award at a ceremony in New York on January 3. Guha on his Twitter had said earlier that he is “deeply honoured to be on the list of AHA awardees. At times like this one most remembers those to whom one owes the most. Three people made me a scholar; my wife Sujata, my teacher (the late) Anjan Ghosh, and my first (and finest) editor, Dr Rukun Advani.”
