looking back Today SSKM Hospital created history with first heart transplant
Thirty-year-old Mrinmay Das got a new lease of life today, thanks to the doctors of SSKM. He became the first heart transplant patient of state-run SSKM hospital. Last Sunday 49-year-old homemaker of Howrah, Anjana Bhowmick had a cerebral stroke. She was admitted to a well-known private hospital of Andul. But she did not survive and was declared brain dead.
Her family as per her wishes decided to donate all her organs, including heart, liver, kidney and her eyes. Accordingly, a green corridor was created and the heart reached SSKM in record time where it was transplanted on Mrinmay Das. This is definitely a medical feat by doctors of a state run hospital where such operations cost much less than private hospitals which are literally out of bounds for most patients.
