Kolkata transforms into a winter wonderland as Kolkata Christmas Carnival begins – GetBengal story

The much-awaited Kolkata Christmas Festival officially began on 19th December, with joy and festivities. The inaugural ceremony, held at Allen Park on Park Street, was graced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Representatives from various churches across the city also participated in the ceremony, symbolizing the city's rich cultural and religious harmony.

Park Street and the stretches of Camac Street, Allen Park, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and surrounding areas of Kolkata has been transformed into a glittering wonderland with dazzling lights. Food stalls and kiosks have been set up to accommodate the large number of visitors expected to flood the area over the coming days.

Tourism Minister Indranil Sen highlighted the extensive planning and collaboration involved in curating the event. According to Mr. Sen, the festival has been meticulously planned under the guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, the tourism department, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Kolkata Police (KP), and several other departments have also joined hands to make it a successful event, providing logistical support.

The festival includes traditional Christmas carols as well as modern musical performances. Kolkata Police will organise a cultural programme on December 26, while the tourism department will host additional events from December 27 to 30. The Kolkata Christmas Carnival is one of the city’s most beloved annual events, second to the Red Road Durga Puja Carnival.

Visitors, including locals and tourists, are expected to flock to Park Street during the festival period. Not only kolkata, many other towns across West Bengal have also decked up with festive decorations and lights. Kolkata is all set to celebrate in the spirit of Christmas with the warmth of togetherness that defines the city's festive charm.
