Is Calcutta High Court sinking
Finally, the confusion and impediments have been sorted out and repair work of the Calcutta High Court building will soon begin. Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre met representatives of three organisations of lawyers and discussed the issue. The advocate general of the state also attended the meet. Built in 1872, Calcutta High Court is the oldest high court in India and has been declared a world heritage building. However, for the past couple of years, pieces of concrete have been falling off the building. Experts have undertaken extensive studies of the building and have deduced that a portion of the main structure is sinking or being pulled down. Experts from IIT have suggested vacating the building and initiating extensive repair work.
