‘Duare Sarkar’ crosses 1 cr registration in 15 days

The flagship outreach programme of Bengal government on doorstep delivery of its welfare schemes, ‘Duare Sarkar’, crossed the 1 crore registration mark in 15 days from its rollout date.

Within four days into the Phase II of the two-month-old programme where government officials are holding multiple camps across Bengal’s 23 districts, Duare Sarkar initiative has been able to cover more than 10% of the state’s population. The programme started on December 1 and continued till December 11 in the first phase. More than 64 lakh people registered themselves for multiple welfare schemes in this phase. 8 lakh registration happened on the very first day of phase II that started on December 15.

As per data available from the government, South 24 Parganas has recorded the maximum number of 10,66,270 registrations till Friday. Murshidabad is second with 10,11,773 registrations. North 24 Parganas hosted the most number of camps, 81 out of a total 695. A total of 6,54,714 persons registered themselves in the state on December 18th, with a cumulative footfall of 1,00,72,802. “The number of camps will be further increased as the programme advances,” a government source said.

‘Duare Sarkar’ is promoting 11 of Bengal’s most successful welfare schemes, including Swasthya Sathi (health scheme), Khadya Sathi (public food distribution scheme), Rupashree (cash transfer scheme to aid marriage of adult women) and Kanyashree (a cash transfer scheme aimed at retaining girls in schools and preventing their early marriage). A new scheme called Manabik Prakalpo where Rs 1,000 will be awarded as pension to physically challenged persons, was also launched during the second phase.

Swasthya Sathi — a basic health coverage for secondary and tertiary care, up to Rs 5 lakh per year per family which will cover all pre-existing diseases can be availed at all government hospitals and empaneled private hospital. This scheme has generated the maximum applications under ‘Duare Sarkar’.

“This health coverage scheme is of great. Apart from government hospitals, some private hospitals are also empaneled where we can avail the service. I have got myself and my wife registered for it,” said Arun Paul (64), a resident of North Kolkata who got himself registered in the first phase of Duare Sarkar.
