Calcutta High Court reduces tree felling numbers lal dighi
Thanks to the intervention of Calcutta High Court, around sixty-one trees around Laal Dighi will get a new lease of life. Calcutta has seen huge number of trees felled in the recent past in the name of infrastructure development, specially metro rail construction. Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation , the executing agency of East-West Metro assured the court that they would manage to carry on the construction with felling only 30 trees in all.
The High Court had earlier questioned KMRC’s decision of axing so many trees for the construction of a station. They have also assured to try and transplant some trees with the help of an NGO.
