West Bengal might soon get the first HAM radio centre of India. HAM radios can be extremely handy during natural disasters and big events like Gangasagar Mela when other forms of communication are not readily available. Once the centre comes up at the state secretariat, officials at Nabanna can stay in touch real time with hundreds of amateur radio operators from across the world and take immediate steps in cases of emergency.
