Now Purulia gets a floating market

Purulia will soon have a floating market of its own which might turn out to be a significant tourist attraction. The market will start near the new dam, King Edward Memorial Tank, opposite to Saheb Dam of Purulia. It has been planned to give a major push to the local handicrafts. The Purulia Municipality intends to complete the construction of the floating market by next year.

The municipality has already taken several steps to enhance the tourist attraction of the district. Inspired by the Dal Lake of Kashmir, the Sahib Dam has been developed. Be it shikaras or horse cart stands, you will find everything here. The floating market will be a new feather to the tourism potential of this tribal district of Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has always wished to tap the tourism potential of Purulia. This new floating market is a step in that direction. Various handicraft products like dokra, terracotta products of Bankura, pata art of Midnapore, clay dolls of Krishnanagar will be available in this floating market. But the entire water body will not be used as the authorities are making sure that the market does not lead to any kind of pollution.
