Hooghly electrician’s daughter, 10-year-old Srija is Yoga Asian Champs

She is only 10 years old and yet this young girl of a Hooghly electrician has made India proud. 10-year-old Srija Saha from Hooghly has won the Asian Championship Yoga Medal at South Korea. She is a class IV student of Kashishwari Pathshala of Chandannagar. Though her father is a mere electrician, Srija overcame all hurdles to turn Asian Champ.

In her journey she was largely helped by her mother, Nabanita Saha who took her to a local yoga competition when Srija realised her passion lay in yoga. Her mother admitted her to a local Trishakti Yoga Club and in the very first year, she won a medal. Later, at the state level also she won medals and stood 10th. This was the first time that she got a birth at the Asian Level and on her first venture itself she made us proud. However due to poverty, there was a question mark on her travelling to South Korea for the competition. Thankfully a local teacher came forward to fund her travel, and also the State Government through Minister of State, Tourism Dept, Indranil Sen who arranged for Rs 2 lakh as her travel expenses. And Srija has kept her word!

She has won the Championship Gold Medal and made us all proud.
