Kalimpong and Kurseong have always been held as the Land of Orchids. But imagine orchids growing in the plains of Siliguri! New farming techniques have made this possible through green houses. Now the farmers are growing around 90 varieties of exquisite orchids in such temperature controlled green houses. The orchids grown are of very good quality and hence are being regularly exported to other parts of the country.
The orchid cultivation has opened new opportunities for the farmers of Siliguri who are earning in lakhs. These glass houses can be seen along the entire stretch of Siliguri’s Bypass Road and more and more varieties are making their way in the market.
