Darjeeling’s toy-train might lose heritage tag

With the Hills burning and the Gorkhaland protest movement turning violent every day, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is undergoing immense loss. UNESCO has been following the violence closely and have expressed concern at how protesters are targeting railway stations and even burning them down. If this continues, then the iconic Darjeeling toy train might lose its heritage tag.

Recently the protesters had set Sonada and Gayabari stations on fire. UNESCO and state government had future plans to revamp this heritage rail service. But with the Gorkhaland movement turning ugly, the future of this dream project is uncertain.
